Founding Partners Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu have been appointed Design Critics in Architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD), starting this fall. They are currently teaching an option studio entitledDe/constructing Cultural Tourism - Ke Zhan (Traveler's Rest Stop) Case Study.
The studio will delve into the topic of cultural tourism in the context of China's westward expansion associated with the Belt and Road Initiative, questioning the relationship between cultural production (architecture) and cultural consumption (tourism). More specifically, the studio will look at the tourism rail connection from Xi'an to Dunhuang, both historically significant cities of commerce and culture. Students will take on a speculative project, wherein they will be asked to design three projects: a small train station, a train cab and a traveler's rest stop.
