The Relic Shelter - Fuzhou Teahouse, designed by Neri&Hu, is awarded the Grand Award and Gold Award by DFA Design for Asia Awards 2021.
Founded by the Hong Kong Design Centre, the DFA Design for Asia Awards recognizes outstanding design with an Asian perspective and considers design works in terms of their integrity, aesthetics, creativity, practicality, sustainability and social impact. Since its inception in 2003, the DFA Design for Asia Awards has become an important platform for designers and design firms to showcase their work to the world. DFA Design for Asia Awards 2021 presented 10 Grand Awards, 1 Grand Award for Culture, 1 Grand Award for Sustainability, 14 Gold Awards, 26 Silver Awards, and 44 Bronze Awards.
Since its release in June this year, Fuzhou Teahouse has already been recognized by numerous awards, including The Plan Award 2021, Golden Trezzini Awards 2021, and Blueprint 2021. Fuzhou Teahouse has also received attention from international and Chinese media, including Architectural Record, ArchDaily, ICON, Designboom, DOMUS, ELLE DECOR ITALIA, ABITARE, FRAME, and ARCHIPOSITION.
FRAME, The Netherlands
"Neri&Hu shows that the two can be respectfully intertwined. We particularly appreciate that the historical space can be used, too, rather than being encased behind impenetrable museum glass or plastered with 'do not touch' signs."
Architectural Record, USA
"Fuzhou Teahouse embed moments of Platonic monumentality within sequences of meandering routes and oblique sight lines, often to sublime effect."
ELLE DECOR ITALIA, Italy
"A structure of exposed wooden beams and pillars divides and organizes the interiors, almost like a home within a home. The architecture's exteriors require concrete to address the city in evolution, interiors are free to evoke customs and practices of the past with a wooden truss."
