Bamboo is everywhere in Asia. A fast growing, sustainable plant, bamboo has been used to make household products for as long as Asian craft is remembered. One of the most challenging aspects of this project is, how do we use a material that is over-used and make it take on a fresh “look”? The final outcome is a multi-functional container, something every house could use, and even with some creative twist, it could become something more than just a container, such as a light shade… or maybe even more! It uses a simple woven technique to make a common shape. The elegantly proportioned bowl is, at the end, a weaving of more than just bamboo, but a weaving of function and aesthetic, simplicity and complexity, and something old and something new.
