Wittmann | BATON
Referring to the formation of the Vienna Secession in 1897, this collection is inspired by the zeitgeist at the time. It was the coalescence of the first movement of artists and designers who were committed to a forward-thinking, internationalist view of the art world, all-encompassing in its embrace and integration of genres and fields. This series of coat hangers and small tables are each composed of three parts, which are each further defined in a tripartite format—base, body and head—not unlike a classical column. Each individual element comes together with a certain tectonic rigor, much inspired by the geometry and lines of Josef Hoffman chairs. Meanwhile, the material palette draws influences from Adolf Loos' interiors, showcasing a layered material expression with metal wrapped in leather and a stone base.
