Riva 1920 | Notch Shelf

Inspired by the rawness of the reclaimed briccole, the Notch shelf showcases the unique transformations that the material endures as an integral part of the Venetian way of life. Cutting notched segments out of the post reveal both the original condition of the oak post as well as all the markings that nature and time have left on it. The series of shelves has three different heights ranging from less than 1 meter, to more than 2 meters, and as it grows in height, horizontal shelves are added at equal intervals almost like a measure of water levels. With each notch, the supporting posts become more slender in a tectonically balanced proportion.
