Nilufar | The Spectacle
"The spectacle in general, as the concrete inversion of life, is the autonomous movement of the non-living."
Guy Debord, The Society of the Spectacle
The piece is Neri&Hu's sculptural reflection on the intricate world we inhabit—one where our lives are often "surrounded by an immense accumulation of spectacles", and reality is experienced vicariously, rather than directly. Through shifting views and moving perspectives, the central light reflects and refracts in varying degrees of illumination—some genuine, others fleeting—shaped by the interplay of lenses, mesh, plates, and the human eye.
This work is not only a poetic reflection on our society, but also a quiet search for equilibrium. It explores form, structure, and their spatial relationships, offering a contemplative space where materiality meets the act of gazing, and where balance is sought in the subtle dialogue between self and surroundings.
